Overview Established in 2013 by the Breckenridge FFA Alumni Association, this scholarship was created to benefit current or former members of Breckenridge FFA. The award is intended as recognition of a student's strong moral character and active service to both school and community. Robert W. MacDonald developed a love of the written word early in life. Journalism was part of him from boyhood and became his lifelong profession. He owned and published the Gratiot County Herald for many years until his passing. In memory of Robert and his devotion to journalism, the MacDonald family established this scholarship. They set a high bar for recipients—qualities that mirror Robert’s own character: strong citizenship at school and in the community, high moral standards, a readiness to serve others, and a passion for journalism.

Katherine Mullinax (1908–1996) ran the Betty Barry Shop in St. Louis and later handed the business to her daughter, Betty Miller. Betty was known both for her business acumen and her generous spirit.
