Churchill Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Winston Churchill Foundation Of The United States
The Churchill Scholarship is a program conceived by Sir Winston Churchill, in collaboration with Churchill College, Cambridge. The initiative is designed to enhance the relationship between the UK and the US in the fields of science and technology. It aims to foster advancements that contribute to our mutual prosperity and security.
The Scholarship
Each year, we provide up to 18 scholarships. This includes 16 Churchill Scholarships for science, mathematics, and engineering students, and two Kanders Churchill Scholarships for science policy students. These scholarships fund a one year Master's degree program that lasts between 9 and 12 months. The scholarship covers tuition, round-trip airfare to the UK, visa expenses, and health charges, as well as a stipend that is 5% greater than the standard UK Research Council amount. Scholars also have the opportunity to apply for a special research grant of $4,000. The total value of the scholarship approximately amounts to $75,000.
Our Approach
Unlike other scholarships that prioritize leadership potential or ambassadorial qualities, we choose Scholars primarily based on their academic and research accomplishments. Our goal is to equip these outstanding scientists, mathematicians, and engineers with the necessary resources to augment their future influence.
As part of our commitment, we offer a science communication workshop and a science policy seminar to the Scholars. While not all Churchill Scholars will necessarily become science communicators or be involved in science policy, these skills are frequently a part of a successful STEM career.
Besides these special programs, Churchill Scholars are also given the opportunity to connect with Sir Winston Churchill's legacy through guided tours of his country home, Chartwell in Kent, and the Churchill War Rooms in London.
