In collaboration with NBAA Charities, the Rahilly family has instituted this scholarship to commemorate John F. Rahilly’s contributions. Rahilly, a graduate of Wentworth Institute, Boston, MA, and Northrop Institute of Technology, CA, where he topped his A&P class, dedicated over four decades of his life to the role of an A & P Technician, primarily in business aviation. His services extended to the US Navy and CT Air National Guard. Rahilly was among the pioneer A&P Technicians in the Canadair Challenger program and swiftly advanced to higher roles. He served as the President of KC Aviation and later assumed senior management roles at Gulfstream, BBA, Mercury Air Centers, and Dassault Falcon Jet. Rahilly derived pleasure from mentoring budding professionals in the industry through the Professional Development Courses at Global Jet Services. In a fitting twist of fate, Rahilly passed away on Aviation Maintenance Technician’s Day, May 24, 2018.

Rahilly was admired for his fine wit, humility as a leader, and his belief that every role, from the janitor to the CEO, held equal importance. He was known for treating everyone with equality and respect, and took great pride in looking after his staff. Rahilly was a staunch advocate of delivering exceptional customer service.

Awards shall be given to U.S. nationals irrespective of their gender, race, religious beliefs, or country of origin. Scholarships are to be granted in the Autumn of 2024, with the checks being issued to the respective schools. Recipients are required to utilize the funds by December 31, 2026, failing which, the grant will be revoked.

Applicants must hold U.S. citizenship or permanent residency. A completed application package, including an essay, a current resume, and two signed recommendation letters, must reach NBAA by August 11, 2025, for scholarship consideration.
