Montana State Elks Vocational Scholarships

Introduction
This scholarship is intended for Montana residents who are U.S. citizens and plan to enroll in an approved vocational or technical program. Applicants must hold a supplemental high school or preparatory school level certification; however, a high school diploma or its equivalent is not required.
Eligibility
- Open to both men and women, evaluated equally.
- Candidates may include graduating high school seniors, but the opportunity is not limited to them. Any individual seeking initial training or retraining to improve workplace competitiveness may apply.
- Must be a resident of the State of Montana and a U.S. citizen.
- Must possess a supplemental high school or preparatory school level certification (a traditional high school diploma or equivalent is not mandatory).
Scholarship Term and Renewal
- The award covers one academic year.
- Recipients may apply for a second year by re-applying to the host Lodge; renewal is not automatic and requires re-application.
Permitted Programs
- Eligible programs are vocational/technical courses of two years or less that result in a terminal associate degree, diploma, or certificate.
- Programs leading to a bachelor’s degree are ineligible.
- The program should prepare the student for gainful employment in the chosen field within approximately two years.
Enrollment and Institutional Requirements
- Recipients must be enrolled as full-time students. Part-time study is not eligible.
- This scholarship cannot be used for correspondence courses or for classes at or below the high school level.
- The institution must be an accredited community college or technical school located in Montana.
Approved Uses of Funds
- Scholarship funds may be applied toward tuition, required fees, books, supplies, and room and board if the student resides on campus.
- Payments must be made directly to the educational institution and used only for the customary, required expenses of the recipient’s approved program of study.
