Montana's STEM/Healthcare Scholarship Program

Program overview
The Montana STEM/Healthcare Scholarship supports Montana high school seniors who plan to pursue postsecondary education in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, or healthcare fields. Its purpose is to encourage students to prepare for, enroll in, and complete STEM or healthcare credentials and to increase the number of degree-holders working in Montana.
Award details
This scholarship is available to graduating seniors from high schools accredited by the Montana Board of Public Education. Recipients who continue to satisfy all program conditions may receive awards over four years as follows: $1,000 in year one, $1,500 in year two, $1,500 in year three, and $2,000 in year four. Who is eligible
- Montana residency is required under Board of Regents Policy 940.1.
- Applicants must apply in the same year they graduate from a high school accredited by the Montana Board of Public Education.
- A cumulative high school GPA of at least 3.25 is required.
- By high school graduation, students must have completed four years of college preparatory mathematics and three years of college preparatory science.
- Applicants must apply to — and be accepted by — one of the program’s eligible campuses.
- The scholarship is for students seeking their first postsecondary credential (certificate), an associate (2-year) degree, or a bachelor’s (4-year) degree.
- Students must declare a qualifying STEM or healthcare major.
- Recipients must be enrolled full-time (minimum 12 credits) each semester at an eligible campus.
- Enrollment must begin in the fall semester immediately following high school graduation.
How to apply
The application has several required steps; your file will be considered complete only after each step is finished by the deadline:
1. Apply to and receive acceptance from one of the eligible campuses.
2. Submit the online application at AwardMontana.mus.edu by March 15.
3. Print the Math and Science Certification page from your online application and have it signed by your high school counselor or designee.
Documents you must upload to the application portal
- Official 7th-semester high school transcript showing all courses from freshman year through the first semester of your senior year, including the cumulative GPA (request this from your high school in early February).
- Copy of your college acceptance letter or acceptance email.
- The signed Math and Science Certification page (signed by the high school counselor/designee).
